Kids
“Children are natural Zen masters; their world is brand new in each and every moment.”
John Bradshaw
The practice of yoga has many benefits for children which are being increasingly recognised and spoken about. These include:
increased self esteem
increased concentration
tools for managing stress
encouraging kind social interactions
improving and maintaining strength and flexibility
improving balance and coordination.
Children are natural yogis and over the last four years of teaching children in school and pre-school settings I have found that I have benefitted as a yoga teacher by rediscovering the world through their eyes. Teaching children yoga requires full engagement, staying connected with the class to read what their needs are that day, keeping an open and creative mind and encouraging children’s curiosity and imagination.
Sharing a yoga class with your child can also help deepen your connection. Practicing together allows us to discover our own inner child, to let go and just be, whilst spending precious time together. Mutual support between parent and child cultivates this sense of open-minded acceptance between you.
